So here we go, another year of picking college football games. I play in the baylorfans.com weekly contest that runs all season. Each correctly picked game (straight-up winner, no spread) is worth 1 point. 10 games to pick each week, so 10 point max per week. Last season, I finished in 12th out of about 220 players, with a 74% accuracy rate. This season's goal is to win the league and to do so, I think I'll need close to an 80% accuracy rate. Here are the games and picks for week 1. Definitely not an easy set of picks:
Minnesota at Syracuse: MINNESOTA
Nevada at Notre Dame: NOTRE DAME
Baylor at Wake Forest: WAKE FOREST
Georgia at Oklahoma State: OKLAHOMA STATE
Illinois vs Missouri (in St. Louis) : ILLINOIS
Oklahoma vs BYU (in Arlington, TX): OKLAHOMA
New Mexico at Texas A&M: TEXAS A&M
Virginia Tech vs Alabala (in Atlanta): ALABAMA
Maryland at California: CALIFORNIA
LSU at Washington: LSU
So, I got 7 out of 10 correct. I missed on the Baylor-Wake Forest game (thank goodness!), the Illinois-Missouri game (bigtime miss, not even close), and the Oklahoma-BYU game (only 6 out of 192 pool players picked that one). One guy got all 10 games right, and a bunch more got 8 or 9 right. Getting 7 out of 10 right each week is good most weeks, but unfortunately this is one of the weeks where it isn't great. Oh well, on to week2. Plenty of time to work my way toward the top.
